Framingham Jail Roster

The Framingham jail roster connects to the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office, which holds anyone arrested by Framingham Police and kept in custody. Framingham does not run its own jail. Local officers make arrests, but the county handles all detention. This page covers how to search for an inmate, how to contact the right offices, what records are available, and how to tell the difference between city police records and county custody records. If someone you know was arrested in Framingham, this is where to start.

Framingham Police Department

The Framingham Police Department is located at 1 William Welch Way, Framingham, MA 01702. Their main line is (508) 872-1212. The department's website is at framinghamma.gov, where you can find contact information, press releases, and guidance on how to make public records requests. Framingham became a city in 2018, and its police department is one of the larger municipal forces in Middlesex County.

When Framingham officers arrest someone, they process the booking locally and then transfer the person to county custody if they are held. The police department keeps its own records of the arrest itself, including the initial report, the charge, and any field notes. These are separate from the jail roster. If you want an arrest report or incident report, you contact the police. If you want to know where someone is being held or when they will be in court, you contact the county sheriff.

You can request arrest records from the Framingham Police Department under M.G.L. c. 66, ยง 10, the Massachusetts public records law. Submit a written request to the department's records office. Include the name, date of the incident, and your contact information. The department must respond within ten business days.

Middlesex County Jail Search

People arrested in Framingham and held in custody are transferred to the Middlesex County Sheriff's House of Correction at 269 Treble Cove Road, Billerica, MA 01862. This is the main facility operated by the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's main line is (978) 667-0700.

To search for an inmate, use the Middlesex County inmate locator at middlesheriff.com. The search tool lets you look up anyone currently in county custody by name. Results include booking date, facility location, current charges, and scheduled court dates. The database reflects current status, so if someone was released since the search was last updated, they may not appear. In that case, call (978) 667-0700 to confirm.

The Middlesex Sheriff's website at middlesheriff.com also provides information on visiting hours, mail procedures, phone access, and programs available to inmates. If you are trying to set up a visit or send mail, check the site for current policies before making the trip to Billerica.

Note: Inmates transferred to state prison will not appear in the county locator. Use the Massachusetts DOC Inmate Search if county results come back empty.

Arrest Records vs. Custody Records

There are two different types of records that come up after an arrest in Framingham. The first is the arrest record, which is held by the Framingham Police Department. The second is the custody or booking record, which is held by the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office. They are maintained separately, and you need to contact different offices to get each one.

The arrest record from the police includes the initial charge, the arresting officer's notes, field reports, and any evidence documentation. This record stays with the police department. It does not transfer to the county when the person is moved to the jail. If you are an attorney, a family member, or a journalist trying to understand what someone was charged with at the point of arrest, the police department is your source.

The custody record from the sheriff's office covers what happens after the person arrives at the county facility. It includes booking date, current charges as processed by the jail, bail status, and housing assignment. The online inmate locator gives you most of this. For a full booking report or any records beyond what shows in the online search, submit a formal records request to the Middlesex Sheriff's Office in writing.

Under the Massachusetts Public Records Law, both offices are required to make these records reasonably accessible. Neither can require you to explain why you are requesting a record as a condition of providing it.

Court Records and Case Status

Once someone is charged and their case moves through the system, the court record becomes its own separate document. Framingham cases are handled in the Framingham District Court and, for more serious charges, in Middlesex Superior Court. Case records for both courts are accessible through MassCourts, the state court system's public portal.

MassCourts lets you search by name and see a list of cases tied to that person. You can find docket entries, charges as they appear in the court record, scheduled hearing dates, and in some cases disposition information if the case has been resolved. This is different from the jail roster, which reflects custody status. You may find someone on the jail roster who does not yet have a full court record if their case is very new.

Attorneys, bail bondsmen, and family members often use both the county inmate locator and MassCourts together to get a complete picture of someone's situation. The jail roster tells you where someone is. The court record tells you where their case stands.

State Prison Records

Not everyone arrested in Framingham stays in county custody. If someone is convicted of a crime that carries a sentence longer than two and a half years, they are transferred to a state prison operated by the Massachusetts Department of Correction. At that point, they leave the county roster entirely.

To find someone in state custody, use the Massachusetts DOC Inmate Search at publicsearch.doc.state.ma.us. This database covers all state correctional facilities operated by the Department of Correction. You can search by name and get facility location, committed offense, and projected release date for state inmates. The DOC search and the county search are entirely separate systems. If you don't find someone in one, try the other.
